Happy New Year!

WOW, I am a horrible blogger. I thought that for one of my goals this year that I would be better about blogging what goes on in my family. I have never been good at journaling and we hae had so many fun adventures of this year that were never documented.

Well, here we are mid January and BABY IT IS COLD OUTSIDE! We started the new year off with very mild temps. It was heavenly. We got spoiled with some warm days and now that it has become colder, I am grateful for our warm house and coats!

Christmas this last year was spent in Chicago with Kevin's family. We had fun driving through the Villiage of Vernon Hills to see the lights there. I can only the lights to our Johnstone Park on steroids. It was amazing. Not as cool as temple square in SLC but still pretty cool with all the displays. We spent the night at friends house and so enjoyed being with them. Usually we are rushing around and only get to spend an hour or so with our friends so, it was nice to actually spend time with them and to sit and talk and not have to worry about the time.

My goal for 2012 as far as blogging goes, is to try to updates things as they come aong. Hopeully I will be sucessful at it for my sake as well as the kids. We got a family picture taken and I need to download it still. It isn't the best but, it works!

General Update/ MOUSE WATCH

Not a whole lot to tell today. Things have been sort of quiet around here in Utah. The boys and I are starting to get more into our own routine. I feel bad for Kevin who is dealing with more issues then I am.

Here is what is happening on the Barltesville home front (if you aren't reading this on Facebook.) Kevin got home on Saturday July 10th. We knew we had a pest problem with fleas and were ready to battle them when Kevin got home. What we didn't know is that our house has been slowly being taken over by mice since we got rid of the cats. I had seen 1 mouse before we left to come here to Utah but only that one time.

WELL, Saturday when Kevin was getting ready to eat some dinner and was sitting on the couch, he saw something that made him curious. Kevin lifted up a couch cushion to discover 8 yes EIGHT baby mice. That freaked him out. I don't blame him it would me too. Kevin put on some rubber gloves and removed the mice and called Bobby and Teresa to see if they would come over to help move the couch outside. The mice had started to pull the stuffing from the couch cushions and were making nests. Totally GROSS if you ask me. Kevin went to Walmart and got some glue traps. He caught 2 adult mice that night in a matter of 10 minutes of setting the traps. Thus we begin our adventures in "MOUSE WATCH".

"MOUSE WATCH" Day 2 - Sunday morning, Kevin was sitting on the "royal pot" and a mouse ran across the floor in front of him. Kevin said he screamed like a little girl. I wish I could have been there to see that. Kevin said Sunday or not, he was going to Walmart after church for more traps and Decon!

"MOUSE WATCH" Day 3 - Monday Kevin did some research on the internet about mice and how to get rid of them. He found one site that said to use baby powder to track them. Kevin found some baby powder and I am not sure where he put it but, he could tell that a mouse/mice had traveled through it. Kevin lined the doorways down the hall with glue traps. He figures he could tell by the way the mouse was facing if it was trying to come out of the room or into it from down the hall. He said with the kids gone, the this would be a good start to catching the mice as he can easily step over the glue traps. Kevin also went to put a trap under the sink in the bathroom only to find that the pipe under the sink leading to the drain was cracked and leaking water when the sink is used. When it rains it pours!

"MOUSE WATCH" Day 4 - Tuesday. Got an email from Kevin this morning saying that he got 2 more mice on the glue traps. One was in the doorway to the little boys room and the other to the main bathroom. Kevin said the he needs to go get more glue traps and he is going to deep clean the little boys room tonight. Kevin has started to do repair work to the inside of the house. He bought some supplies from Walmart but he said he remembers why he doesn't use their stuff. It takes too long to dry. He said that the spackle is just too wet but he will use it since he bought it there. Kevin also said that tonight he is going to spray some kind of stiff caulking down a hole that we have in the living room. I had seen a mouse come up from that hole before we left to come to Utah.

Tomorrow I start on my new diet. The HCG diet by Dr. Simeon's. Thisn isn't going to be easy and a lot of sacrafices will need to be made on my part but hopefully, I will get this extra weight off and keep it off so I can be healthier for my family.

More to come on "MOUSE WATCH" as things progress.

Today we had a fun adventure with the nieces. We went to Hogle zoo and it was fun!
The weather was nice and that it even more enjoyable.
We watched a bird show and I got buzzed by an owl and a couple of hawks.
The baby elephant Zuri was fun to see. She is being trained to put on a little show. We didn't see her show due to how popular she is and they have just introduced her to the public.
I hadn't been to the zoo in a few years and it was neat to see the changes and how it has grown over the years. I am looking forward to the next adventure with the girls.

The Copper Mine

Today we kidnapped 2 of my brothers girls. Elizabeth and Lauren. Our plan was to go run a few errands in the Salt Lake / So. Jordan area but, when we saw that we were so close to the copper mine and finding out that the girls had never been there before, we opted for a change of plans.
The girls seemed to have a fun time. We went out to lunch afterwards and I was shocked when Elizabeth ordered a double cheese burger and ate the WHOLE thing.
We were going to go to Hatch Family Chocolates but since we went to the copper mine we didn't go. the girls were a little disappointed but oh well. It was a fun day.

The Front Runner commuter train.
We sat on the top row on the way home and ate our lunch.
The pictures are all out of whack but you can get the general idea of our day.
We caught the front runner train at the Woodscross station and rode it to Ogden.
In Ogden they have a small train museum. Thomas loved the trains.
At first Thomas did NOT want to get on the front runner. He said no train.
Once he got on, he loved it and as we ate lunch on the train waiting to come home,
He kept yelling "go train go". I was funny.
Lauren and my dad came with us. Lauren is the "middle" child of my brothers 4 girls. She gets picked on by the older girls and where she isn't the baby, she feels left out at times so she got a special Grandpa "Pops" day. (My dad likes to be called pops.) I think we all had fun. It was a nice day.

Fireworks in the front yard are the best!

We had a fun filled weekend with BBQ's, family, friends and fireworks.
My brother has a great backyard for parties to be held in.
A shade tree and PLENTY of space for kids to run and play and still not bother the adults.
What I love about my family is that they are wild and crazy and you NEVER know what is going to be said or done. My cousin Dawn just turned 30 and she is special like Trevor and Ellery
but she can do more and is higher functioning then they are. You can always count on Dawn for at least one if not more belly laughs. When we get together we always tease each other. Poor Dawn always seems to be the butt of the jokes but the good thing is, she likes the attention and doesn't realize half the time that we are joking with/about her. We were talking about my cousin John (her brother) and out of the blue Dawn announced that John was having sex with 3 girls. My aunt piped up and said "no Dawn, he is dating 3 girls". Dawn swears that at dinner the other night her mom said John was having sex with the 3 girls.
My aunt Gayle and uncle Kent are also a pair to watch when they get together. Both love drama (drama meaning acting not causing drama) and excel in that field. Anyway, At our BBQ Kent and Gayle got the kids wiggle walker and raced down the middle of the street. If I can attach the video clip I will.
Tonight we are having a family screening of a documentary on Al Jenks who broke many land speed records and built the Mormon Meteor race car. My moms step-brother Roger was able to obtain a copy of it since he helped restore the car. Roger also went to Jay Leno's garage with the car and helped show Jay how it worked. Tomorrow we are taking Thomas on the train (trax) to Ogden to see the trains up there. Later this week we are going to the zoo with my brother and his family. It is going to be a fun week.
